Company Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work, we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Design, develop and deploy solutions and hands-on software development – working closely with leads, designers, and product managers to deliver features and experiments to our customers worldwide
  • Primarily working on web frontend with Typescript, but may need to work with other languages and environments
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and optimally advocate for engineering needs to non-technical team members within the group
  • Model initiative and ownership in achieving goals, improving processes and solutions
  • Find opportunities for cross-team collaboration to work on new insights and improvements that help achieve our goals

You're probably a match if you have

  • You'll learn how to make Canva a more accessible product. With Canva being a visual communications tool and always expanding its product surface, it’s quite unique in its challenges and complexity.
  • You'll learn how to define and champion best practices across the entire company
  • You'll learn how to navigate our Canva organisational structure — an ever-growing startup where you will get a chance to understand different team and engineers motivations and experiences, and teach them how to improve accessibility with our tools we built.

About the Team

We want to be the most-accessible design tool in the world – and with strong sustained internal support from leadership and core product teams, our Accessibility Teams are set to achieve this mission. Canva is in a really interesting position in the accessibility space where we need to think about how everyone can use the product as well as how people can make designs that are accessible, ideally by default. Imagine being able to confidently use a design tool to make a beautiful design without seeing it. This is a deep complex problem that is on the cutting edge of not just frontend engineering but also modern web applications.

About the Role

You’ll get hands-on experience writing reusable well-architected code and technical documentation to build accessible user experiences, most prominently within the core editor experience. You’ll have the opportunity to own and improve core packages within the Editor, and to make improvements that allow us to scale to 1B users.

You’ll be a frontend technical leader within a team of 7 engineers, promoting a culture of mentoring, feedback, and quality.

What's in it for you?

Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard - and we do - but you'll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a range of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work.

Here's a taste of what's on offer:

  • Equity packages - we want our success to be yours too
  • Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents & carers
  • An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support your wellbeing, social connection, office setup & more
  • Flexible leave options that empower you to be a force for good, take time to recharge and supports you personally
