As our Collections Associate, you will play a key role in managing our portfolio of outstanding arrears and overdue accounts, contributing to cash flow and minimising bad debt.

In our fast-paced, high-growth startup environment, you take ownership of the collections process end-to-end, proactively reaching out to customers, negotiating payment arrangements, and escalating cases as necessary. Your work will require a mix of analytical and people skills, as well as the ability to think on your feet and solve problems with a customer-centered approach.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and own a portfolio of outstanding and overdue accounts, ensuring timely follow-up and collections.
  • Negotiate payment arrangements with customers, always aiming for positive, win-win outcomes.
  • Proactively generate arrears reports, analyse collections data, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Coordinate with third-party agents for field visits and skip tracing as needed.
  • Conduct inbound and outbound communication via calls, emails, SMS, and WhatsApp, while complying with company policies and procedures.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven track record in consumer debt collections, with an understanding of collections procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of clear, empathetic, and solution-focused customer interactions.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to de-escalate upset customers and resolve issues calmly and tactfully.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, demonstrating accountability, proactive problem-solving, and a commitment to achieving results.
  • Self-starter attitude with a strong sense of ownership and adaptability in a dynamic startup setting.
