About the role:

This 9-month maternity leave contract ensures the smooth operation of all aspects of payroll, including payment of salaries, annual bonuses and commissions. Also, assisting with budgeting and forecasting, taxation and superannuation, auditing, workers' compensation insurance, general ledger and reconciliations. You will work part time, 2 days per week.

How you will add value:

General Responsibilities

  • Coordinate timely and accurate bi-monthly payroll processing for circa 230 employees including payment of associated PAYG and payroll taxes.
  • Maintain MicrOpay Employee Self Service (ESS) for new starters, terminations, promotions and reporting line changes.
  • Ensure employee related taxes and superannuation calculations remittances.
  • Ensure payroll documentation records are received, accurate, complete and maintained (saved) as required by statute and policy.
  • Liaise with People & Culture weekly for timely payroll updates and information.
  • Provide month end payroll reports to the Finance Manager and other ad hoc reports as requested.
  • Monitoring staff leave and approvals thereof.
  • Accurately process annual salary adjustments (annually 1st September, and irregular out of cycle).
  • Calculate and process all adjustments accurately including:
    • Off cycle salary adjustments (including back-pay if required).
    • Process leave entitlements.
    • Process any other adjustments, including bonuses, additions and deductions.
  • Process termination payments in accordance with statutory requirements.

Commissions

  • Processing of monthly sales commissions (mid month).

Budgets & Forecasts

  • Assist with the preparation of the annual salaries budget & quarterly forecast if required.

Taxation & Superannuation

  • Ensure PAYG tax is calculated correctly and paid on time.
  • Prepare monthly State Payroll Tax reconciliation and payment calculations and annual reconciliations.
  • Compile statistical information including returns to the ATO & ABS as required.
  • Produce and reconcile PAYG Payment Summaries at year end and ensure the appropriate information is forwarded to the ATO.
  • Administer Superannuation contribution requirements and payments in accordance with existing legislation and procedural requirements, incorporating requirements of payday super.

Audit & Year End Processes

  • Manage internal and external audit enquiries as required.
  • Year end closure procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Assist with statutory disclosures, including provision of information for the Remuneration Report.

Insurance

  • Prepare Workers Compensation renewals and policy payments. (Annually around April/July).

General Ledger & Reconciliations

  • Maintain journal outputs within the payroll system.
  • Month end closure.

Process Improvements & Documentation

  • Advise and provide effective solutions to administrative payroll issues.
  • Ensure process documentation is kept up to date.

About you:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or substantial relevant experience
  • Knowledge of Employee Taxes (ATO), Superannuation Legislation, Workers' Compensation and State Government Payroll Tax requirements (all states)
  • Experience using Access MicrOpay
  • Experience in Award interpretation
  • High level of discretion when handling sensitive information
