About the Role

Reporting to the Manager of Aptamer Development the Associate Scientist will be responsible to assist, execute, analyse data for the development of DNA synthesis process.

With strong technical expertise the role will support/ assist to solve complex problems and produce high reliable data in a collaborative and cross discipline work environment. Building effective relationships on multiple levels with strong communication will be essential to bring forward project plans.

Role requires high level of flexibility and skill set to switch between different projects based on priorities and business requirements.

Role also requires passion and determination and willingness to learn new techniques based on evolving requirements of start-up environment.

Some of your responsibilities

  • Assist Nutromics’ R&D scientific team with the design,execution, data collection, and analysis of experiments on Nutromics’ aptamer-based technology.
  • Maintain a high-quality lab notebook to document experimental plans, results, and analysis.
  • Communicate experimental results (either orally or written) to other Science and engineering team members to help drive the development of Nutromics’ electrochemical sensing platform.
  • Collaborate with internal teams. Tasks include but are not limited to executing experiments, analysing data, preparing reports and contributing towards project progress.
  • Assist with ordering and procurement of supplies and equipment and with general maintenance of laboratory.
  • Adhere to Nutromics' work health and safety policies and procedures, maintaining a commitment to conducting all work activities in a manner that prioritizes safety and ensures a safe work environment for all employees.
  • Oligonucleotide production includes operation of automated synthesis equipment.
  • Post labeling oligonucleotides with different chemistries.
  • Fulfill all training requirements for Oligo, instrument use, and necessary oligo production tasks.
  • Operation of analytical instruments: HPLC, LC-MS, UV-Vis and ability to use other methods for products characterization.
  • Process production materials using bench techniques and lab instrumentation (Prep HPLC, pH probe, balances, NanoDrop, and evaporators)
  • Batch production, preparation of protocols and revising process procedures following existing system.
  • Maintain inventory of raw materials and final mixtures.
  • Other reasonable duties as required.

Your role will have one or more of the below areas of focus:

  • Area of Focus in DNA synthesis and labelling: Knowledge in organic chemistry, Bio-conjugation and analytical chemistry, HPLC, mass spectrometry.

Must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science with Honours or a Master of Science by Research Degree in Chemistry or related area.
  • Foundational technical knowledge in DNA synthesis, Organic, and Analytical Chemistry.
  • Strong attention to detail with skills in planning, execution, and data analysis of experiments.
  • Proficient in relevant software, equipment, and technical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, prioritization and time-management abilities.

Preferred:

  • Strong synthetic chemistry knowledge and scale up knowledge.
  • Experience with automated synthesis equipment and purification instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of solid phase synthesis, phosphoramidite chemistry, and hands-on experience with automated synthesizers.
  • Advanced and up-to-date knowledge of protecting groups and different deprotection strategies.
  • Expertise in characterisation and purification of oligonucleotides and their conjugates by LCMS and HPLC.
  • Strong analytical aptitude with an ability to work at the interface of chemistry and biology.
  • Process establishment and optimisation; Improvement of sensor stability, reproducibility, and scalability.
