Are you a Product Designer who thrives in test-and-learn environments, forever curious about how our products can have a bigger impact on the lives of our customers? Do you keep up with the latest and greatest in design tools and tech, and want to work with some of the brightest in the industry? Do you ever wonder how your specialty coffee and smashed avo make their way to your local cafe?

At Ordermentum, our purpose is to create a more sustainable food and beverage industry, by helping venues and suppliers trade smarter. Since launching in 2014, we’ve grown a massive network of 40k of your favourite cafes, restaurants, and bars (almost half the venues in the country!) ordering $1.5b+ a year from over 800 local, wholesale suppliers. In September 2023, we announced a new capital raise and our acquisition of the Foodbomb business to further extend our market-leading position, together.

We have two core products that will need your design stewardship:

  1. a web app for suppliers to manage their orders, payments, products, and customers
  2. iOS, Android and web apps for venues to order from, pay, and discover new suppliers

We care a lot about doing product design well, and collaboratively. Some of the design practices we have put in place over the last couple of years include:

  • An increasingly consistent, evolving design system in Figma with native patterns
  • Design QA - for design/development teams to get pixel-perfect experiences to customers
  • A research repository in Notion with customer interviews and usability test recordings
  • <your next brilliant idea here>

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in lean Product Design for web and mobile apps, be excited about learning and contributing to product strategy, advocate for the power and value of design, and collaborate closely with multiple teams to get the best customer outcomes.

What you’ll do
  • Design delightful product experiences on mobile and web apps, that solve customer needs and deliver on the broader product vision and commercial strategy
  • Work with data-driven product and engineering teams to help make these experiences a reality in an agile development environment, and work with marketing, success, and growth teams to drive adoption. Be comfortable with producing iterative designs, incorporating fast feedback and insights from customers and stakeholders
  • Lead on efficient and effective product design practices, including growing and evolving our design system, developer collaboration, and customer research and testing
What you’ll have
  • Strong experience as a professional product designer, working with sophisticated, modern, B2B apps. A portfolio of work that showcases clean, modern design and a thorough, thoughtful design process that can solve problems for our customers through native mobile and web patterns. Fluency in working with state-of-the-art UI and prototyping tools (we are big fans of Figma for both)
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving ability and conceptual thinking. Thrive in a hypothesis-based environment and able to frame strategic challenges from a customer perspective
  • Experience and confidence across the end-to-end design process—From research (quantitative and qualitative) and blue-sky design concepts to quickly communicating and iterating on ideas with stakeholders, to lean product development and testing. Proven experience testing and validating ideas early in the process with customers and internal stakeholders, with a natural focus on what is usable, feasible and valuable
  • Able to collaborate effectively with agile development teams to balance commercial and customer value with feasibility assessments and iteratively deliver value. Highly collaborative working style. Experience working closely with adjacent roles, such as product managers and engineers, to plan, prioritise, and deliver projects.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and collaboration skills, without fear of proactive over-communication - able to convey opinions, thoughts, and feelings with other teammates, founders, and customers. Honest, thoughtful, and transparent communication is critical. Confident in communicating product and design visions, framing challenges and opportunities, to stakeholders to create alignment, and driving towards the outcome.
  • Extremely detail-oriented and organised, able to take ownership and manage expectations across multiple concurrent projects towards clear deadlines. You have a high quality bar and will be constantly looking at enhancing the experience for customers.
  • Pragmatism. Comfortable with ambiguity, and shifting deadlines. Resourcefully solve problems, and able to make pragmatic trade-offs while holding a bigger, strategic goal in mind.
  • A great attitude. The right attitude towards a sense of urgency, risk, and uncertainty about the future that comes with working at a fast-growing scale-up. We are a small team and love seeing each other win so a positive, can-do attitude that inspires others is a must.

Nice to have

  • Passionate about the food, coffee or hospitality space in general. Expert knowledge in the hospitality industry will be a welcome addition.
  • Experience designing SaaS software for business users, or in finance, accounting or payments space
  • UX writing and editing clear copy for product features, including navigational elements and error messages
  • Can demonstrate skills in marketing collateral, icon design and basic levels of animation experience
What you'll get
  • Work in a bright, highly-capable team focused on interesting, meaningful industry problems
  • An attractive salary package, including participation in the Employee Share Option Plan
  • Ongoing support in your learning and development
  • Great office centrally located in Surry Hills, surrounded by great cafes. Still finding the right balance of remote and in-office working, and being there for each other throughout.
