Due to rapid growth and expansion we are looking for a Director of Engineering - Scale-up and International Tech Transfer

Purpose of the role

This role will spearhead the scale-up and transfer of our R&D process to full scale facilities overseas. You will leverage your broad experience in engineering management to interface with selected EPC partners who will build the infrastructure. Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer, you will lead a cross-functional team of engineers and scientists and collaborate closely with stakeholders, operations and business development teams to drive successful technology transfer initiatives.

This position will require relocation to Canberra, ACT, Australia.

Key Responsibilities...

  • Technology Transfer Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for the rapid transfer of scale-up and new technologies from R&D to commercial scale facilities, aligned with business objectives and timelines.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with commercial, technical and engineering stakeholders to facilitate seamless technology transfer, addressing technical challenges and ensuring alignment with production requirements.
  • Engineering Expertise: You will develop scope and interface management plans as well as support engineering partners with detailed technical information on our plant operations. You will have broad, applicable knowledge across process, mechanical, electrical and control interfaces as well as a deep appreciation of operational and quality requirements.
  • Project Management: You will apply PMBOK principles to provide transparency and accountability, identifying any resource constraints and ensuring successful project delivery within budget and schedule.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate technical, operational, and regulatory risks associated with technology transfer activities, implementing effective risk management strategies to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline technology transfer processes, enhance efficiency, and optimise performance, leveraging data-driven insights and best practices.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate project updates, milestones, and technical insights effectively to internal stakeholders, executive leadership, and external partners, fostering transparency, alignment, and collaboration.

Qualifications and Experience...

  • Bachelor or higher degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • Extensive experience in international process transfer and scale-up
  • Proven track record of success in managing complex engineering projects, preferably in a manufacturing or process development environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in evaluating and optimizing equipment and processes for scale-up, with a focus on efficiency, reliability, and safety.
  • Strong understanding of chemical processes and related operational requirements
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams, set clear objectives, and drive results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate and address technical challenges and opportunities throughout the technology transfer process.
  • Effective communicator and collaborator, with the ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Passion for innovation, technology commercialization, and driving positive impact through engineering excellence.
