Due to rapid growth and expansion we are looking for a Director of Process Engineering.

Purpose of the role...

This role is integral to our technology team's leadership, driving the development and implementation of cutting-edge solutions. You'll oversee the design, enhancement, and integration of chemical processes with bioprocessing, including industry-scale enzymatic technology. Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer, you'll provide strategic direction, technical expertise, and leadership to advance our mission of sustainability and innovation. Your leadership will guide a team in adapting our core technologies for our new development facilities, initially concentrating on PET and nylon.

This position will require relocation to Canberra, ACT, Australia.

Key Responsibilities...

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide input into stakeholder-aligned strategy development and translate this into achievable and actionable targets for your team
  • Team Management: Lead, grow and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and technicians, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Process Development: Drive process development efforts to optimise process steps to reduce costs, improve LCA and ensure our products can integrate seamlessly with existing polymerisation and downstream processing
  • Technology Innovation: Identify existing and emerging technologies, trends, and opportunities in related fields, and lead efforts to innovate and integrate novel solutions to address scale-up challenges.
  • Collaboration: Establish and nurture strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to foster collaboration, leverage expertise, and accelerate technology development and deployment.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, standards, and guidelines governing chemical engineering and bioprocessing activities, and drive efforts to obtain necessary approvals and permits for technology deployment.
  • Project Management: Oversee project planning, execution, and delivery, ensuring milestones are met within budget and timeline constraints, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate technical concepts and project updates effectively to internal stakeholders, executive leadership, external partners, investors, and regulatory authorities, fostering transparency, trust, and collaboration.

Qualifications and Experience...

  • Advanced degree in Chemical/Process Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, or related field.
  • Demonstrable history of success in leading process development and scale-up in specialty/fine organics or polymer processing and by extension, a working understanding of the issues related to dangerous goods usage, storage, and handling.
  • Skilled and conversant with process design principles, preferably demonstrable by experience in design consultancy.
  • Experienced in HAZOP close-out, pre/commissioning, readiness to operate.
  • Demonstrable history of resolving process issues associated with scale-up, sizing and reactor design.
  • Experience in managing multiple constrained projects to successful conclusion and reporting on the same to senior management or board level.
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical skills, and business acumen, with the ability to translate technical insights into actionable strategies and plans.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, environmental standards, and permitting processes is desirable.
  • Passion for sustainability, environmental conservation, and driving positive social impact through technology innovation.
