Due to rapid growth and expansion we are looking for a Director of Chemistry.

Purpose of the role

The purpose of this role is to provide leadership and Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in process chemistry and to help shape process development as we scale up our plants. The Director of Chemistry will work with the Chief Technology Officer and the broader team to ensure business objectives are met and for execution of the internal Samsara development projects.

Serve as the technical leader to transition lab-level developments to plant scale as we enhance and industrialise our processes for post-industrial and post-consumer wastes.

The candidate will plan, organise, and oversee all process chemistry activities to ensure that timelines and specifications are realised. The candidate will be accountable for the excellence of our process development and chemistry analytics. A key aspect of this position is the ongoing support and learning that occurs post transfer, to further improve our offering. The candidate will personify Samsara’s shared values and culture, both internally and externally. The candidate will work with the highest standards of safety, integrity, transparency, and ethics to create win-win scenarios for customers, partners, and colleagues.

This position will require relocation to Canberra, ACT, Australia.

Key Responsibilities...

  • Developing and scaling up keeping commercially viability in line with business requirement.
  • Ensuring transfer of technologies smoothly from R&D-> Process Development Lab -> Pilot-> Manufacturing for commercialisation of improved/new technologies and products.
  • Proper evaluation and outsourcing projects to suitable laboratories and technology centres for esp. in cases which require special technology and meeting fast timelines for development.

Qualifications And Experience...

  • Minimum of 10 years working in corporate R&D in support of industrial operations / manufacturing in specialty chemicals.
  • Demonstrated industry experience in the leadership of R&D teams and/or projects is essential.
  • Strong track record of design/development with direct experience in the scaled production and/or purification of compounds.
  • Strong track record of resolving process chemistry issues and involvement in industrial process design/development.
  • Deep exposure to all areas of analytics (GPC, HPLC, SEM, ICP, etc).
  • Experience with scale-up / industrialisation of laboratory processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, influence, collaborate, and work with individuals, colleagues and clients.
  • Experience in the production of chemical components used in polymer production such as PET, nylon, polyurethane is highly advantageous.
